Our study of rocks and minerals began with us working in groups to become experts in a particular area, namely igneous rocks, sedimentary rocks, metamorphic rocks, or minerals. We arranged our information in a PowerPoint and had the opportunity to peer teach our classmates and share our expertise.
Once that was complete, we participated in an actual dig! Well, it was in a tin pan, but it was fun! Miss Hunt placed over 30 different rocks, minerals, or fossils in each pan, and we had to "dig" to find them! Once we located a specimen, we had to identify it and place it on the appropriate sorting sheet. While doing this project, we also utilized Edmodo and blogged with Miss Hunt to learn even more about rocks and minerals.
Check out the details on Miss Hunt's page: Rock Hounds.
